A study conducted by Sunnybrook Hospital determined that it takes 8.1 minutes on average for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to arrive on a scene when dispatched in urban centres across Canada. The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada states that a person in cardiac arrest has a 10% less chance of survival for every minute they are not defibrillated. If a person is defibrillated in the first four minutes of cardiac arrest, they have over a 50% chance of survival!
